Description
Plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, hand surgery
Plastic and aesthetic surgery
The specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery is also specialized in the various treatment methods of cosmetic surgery. He is the right specialist when it comes to treating forehead wrinkles with botulinum toxin, surgically correcting drooping eyelids, enlarging, reducing or tightening breasts or performing liposuction, for example.
Dermatosurgery
The dermatologist can use various methods to treat skin and sexually transmitted diseases. On the one hand, these include medication, but also techniques such as laser therapy, cryotherapy (application of cold), dermabrasion (removal of damaged skin) or surgical methods, e.g. for the removal of skin tumors.
Hand surgery
The hand surgeon specializes in operations on the hands. This includes, for example, the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome, osteosynthesis of fractures of the hand bones or the treatment of cuts to the vessels, tendons and ligaments of the hand. The success of interventions on the many fine vessels, tendons and nerves of the hand requires great precision and dexterity on the part of the hand surgeon.
Surgery of the peripheral nerves: Peripheral nerves are the nerves of the body that are located outside the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). There are sensory (conveying sensation) and motor (triggering movement) nerves as well as mixed nerves. The sensory nerves convey the feeling in our hands and feet, for example, and are sensitive to pressure, temperature stimuli, movement and pain. They are therefore also responsible for tissue texture, temperature regulation, perspiration and blood circulation "at a fine level". If there is pressure on these nerves, a lack of oxygen occurs at the corresponding points in the nerve. The nerves can be permanently damaged. This causes sensations such as tingling, numbness or pain (neuropathy). These pressure-damaged nerves can be surgically relieved to improve or even eliminate the symptoms. These operations are called nerve decompression procedures.
