In our quiet environment you can discuss your physical symptoms and if necessary, any other things which are affecting your health and well-being. I advise women on all manner of topics related to female health issues and illnesses. Your needs come first. My job is enriched by the opportunities to get to know diverse life stories of both girls and women of different nationalities. A conversation in German, English or French is therefore no problem. I have a good relationship with the University Hospital Women’s Clinic and with Bethesda Hospital and will liaise with them if needed. Blood donation appointmentsThe Basel Blood Donation Centre is a charitable foundation and a member of the blood donation service SRK. We have a mandate from the federal government to provide blood products to the health facilities in the Basel region. To this end, we maintain a blood donation centre in Basel's city centre and a collection point in the Liestal Cantonal Hospital. We regularly conduct mobile blood donation campaigns in the municipalities. We produce the blood products in the centre and operate an immunohaematological laboratory accredited by the SAS. The donated blood is used to care for people who have suffered major blood loss following accidents or operations. It is also used to treat cancer, leukaemia or other diseases. Around 50% of the blood needed in our region is lacking. In order to cover the entire demand, we have to buy blood products from the rest of Switzerland. In addition to teaching medical students, he is a mentor and supervisor for Master-, doctors theses and PhD degrees. Furthermore, he acts as an external examiner for PhD-Theses at the University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and the University of Malmö (Sweden). Furthermore, he lectures at the University of Basel at the international Master Program 'Biomedical Engineering'. He is also the chair for the annual arthroscopy-course for swiss foot and ankle surgeons held at the Arthrex Lab in Munich (Germany). This aims to improve the skills of swiss orthopaedic surgeons in the innovative, minimally invasive technique of arthroscopically assisted procedures. He is currently part of an international research group on early diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthrosis/osteoarthritis in the foot and ankle.
