Description and special features :
Welcome to Serge Oulevey's osteopathic practice for adults, children, athletes, young and old.
The practice welcomes patients by appointment. Easily accessible, it is located near the river " Grande Eau ", north of the town of Aigle, next to the roundabout lined with a miniature castle, at Place du Centenaire 3, in the Espace santé. The entrance is to the right of the "Amiguet Martin" paper mill. Go along the outside gallery, follow the signs: Espace santé, médecin, pédiatre and take the elevator up to the second floor.(Do not take the stairs.)
Two parking lots are located near the practice. The first is just in front of the entrance, while blue-zone and white-zone spaces are on the other side of the Grande Eau river (2 min walk).
The practice has two parking lots.
Osteopathy in a nutshell :
Osteopathy is movement therapy. All structures must be mobile in relation to each other (joints, muscles, tendons, organs, etc)
What is treated with osteopathy (very vast field) :
Principles in osteopathy:
To function normally, joints, muscles and organs need to be free. Yet, in our daily lives, we frequently feel a blockage when making a movement, lifting a load or putting too much strain on our body (at sport or work).
These situations are not serious (except in cases of exclusion), but are annoying because of the pain caused during our movements in everyday life.
As an osteopath, I apply myself to locating this/these blockages, diagnose the lack of mobility and finally apply the appropriate techniques with the aim of restoring mobility.
The technique chosen depends on what the patient's body needs. For example, if a joint is blocked, a technique involving cracking (known as a structural technique) is preferred.
With children, I use a technique that involves the patient's own body.
With children, so-called gentle techniques are employed (cranial, visceral, postural).
Every patient has his or her own needs.
Frequently asked questions :
A joint that isn't free moves less well. When we make a movement, we force on the ligaments (and capsule) of this joint which hurts.
No. A structure can only lack freedom as a result of a shock, a fall, very great effort, inflammation. The osteopath does not replace anything he aims to restore optimal mobility to the structures.
He will check the mobility/internal tension of organs and structures and restore mobility to what is altered. (tensions, scars, adhesions)
The principle of mobility is the same according to the theory developed around 1939 by Sutherland. For classical medicine the skull is fused and has no movement. In osteopathy, fine palpation reveals a rhythmic movement that reflects the patient's "vitality". From then on, the osteopath can correct a lack of mobility.
Often criticized but much practiced, this way of treating brings undeniable results, especially with babies and children.
