Bellevue Youth Center
Vision
Our framework conditions and educational approach enable girls and young women to receive a holistic education on the basis of which they can:
- expand their skills and strategies for action,
- are able to form positive relationships, and
- determine their lives independently and autonomously.
Guiding principles
To realize this vision, we follow the approach of trauma pedagogy and create a safe place for girls and young women. We create reliable, predictable, and increasingly manageable living conditions and everyday circumstances that enable girls and young women to build inner security and trust in the outside world and the people who live in it.
The attitude we adopt towards both the girls and young women and our colleagues is characterized by the following guiding principles.
Inclusion and participation
We trust people and believe in their abilities. We help girls and young women to participate as much as possible in accordance with their stage of development. With a professional understanding of participation, we guide young people out of feelings of powerlessness and support them in increasingly experiencing themselves as independent, competent, and belonging. At the employee level, we work together at various levels of participation, depending on the situation.
Reflection
We explain problematic behavior patterns that stand in the way of the girls' and young women's development against the backdrop of past traumas and help them to resolve these issues together, thereby activating and expanding the young people's capacity for development. In doing so, we rely, among other things, on benevolent discussion and reflection with the girls and young women and within the team.
Respect and appreciation
We promote a non-violent climate and are committed to respecting and valuing the individuality of young people and our colleagues in every situation. In this way, we enable girls and young women to respect themselves and others and to experience themselves as valuable.
Orientation and transparency
Our organization is clearly structured. We maintain a responsible approach to these structures as well as to hierarchies and power relations. We value a transparent and mutually binding approach to rules and agreements. In this way, we create a predictable living environment for the girls and young women and a supportive working environment for our colleagues.
Fun and joy
To strengthen the resilience of young people and our own resilience, we take advantage of opportunities for fun and joy. We promote experiences of enjoyment and joie de vivre.
