The production of tubes began in Appenzellerland as early as the post-war years. Under the management of a "tube maker", it was mainly inmates from the citizens' home who worked in the factory. Around 30 pipes were produced per day. While the smaller pipes could be produced by machine, the larger ones had to be shaped by hand. Operations were maintained on the site shown here (today's indoor swimming pool) until the early 1970s.

After this, production was discontinued and the site moved to the sewage treatment plant in Bödeli, Appenzell. Until 2002, the canton only operated trade and no more production there.

In September 2002, Röhrenhandel Appenzell AG was converted into a public limited company and moved to its new location at Weissbadstrasse 58.

With the takeover other civil engineering products were also sold in the regional area and constantly adapted to demand.

   In September 2008, the "Rothus" property at Weissbadstrasse 52 was purchased. This creates additional storage capacity of 3000m2. This enables a further expansion of products in the civil engineering materials sector, as well as the establishment of a complete store for the sale of tradesmen's supplies.
