Your doctor has suggested that you supplement the treatment you regularly follow with hypnosis. Here are some indications that may begin to describe the type of therapy.

-The hypnotic state is something absolutely normal, experienced approximately every 90 minutes in a physiological manner, when the person's concentration is focused on something else than sensory perceptions (traveling with the mind on train rides or during school classes, thinking about vacations during lunch, carefully following a filmographic or literary plot and not hearing surrounding noises...)

This state is the ultimate brain technique for "recharging the batteries."

-The hypno-therapist's construction of a trance state consists of accompanying the patient into this state of maximum concentration at a deliberate and specific time. It is not possible to be hypnotized unwillingly. There is a codified and clearly recognizable beginning and end of trance.

-During trance we do not sleep; rather, we are in a state of hyper-concentration and attention, particularly sensitive to our surroundings. For example, it is what allows us to record almost indelibly sentences or events heard and experienced during periods of high emotional tension (e.g., in the Emergency Room, in Intensive Care, in the Delivery Room, in the event of an accident...).

This means that we are in a state of trance.

This means that during trance one can move, talk and spontaneously exit the therapist-induced state at any time and in complete freedom.

-This enormous capacity for concentration is used for purely therapeutic purposes, to reactivate each individual's ability to cope with difficult situations, both physical and psychic. There is an ethical charter, with strict rules, to which all hypno-therapists are subjected.

-The therapeutic cycle is generally short, oriented on concrete goals; after a few consultations there is normally the teaching of self-hypnosis, so as to make the patient autonomous in the management of his resources.

This is not a psychotherapy where an attempt is made to analyze the origin of certain disorders; instead, it is a therapy aimed at reactivating the patient's skills, so as to make him or her fully participate in the solution; a therapy oriented toward the future rather than the past. In this sense, it is not something alternative to traditional therapies, but something that comes in addition to them.

Everyone is hypnotizable; the ability to enter trance is inherent in human beings. Trances can be more or less deep, but even light trances can be sufficient for therapeutic work.
