What is comfort ventilation?

A comfort ventilation system essentially consists of a central ventilation unit with heat recovery and a piping system. This ensures that fresh air is constantly supplied to the living spaces and the "used" air is removed. The use of warm exhaust air to heat the fresh air is fundamental to energy efficiency.

The fresh outside air is fed into the ventilation unit via the outside air intake and an optional geothermal heat exchanger. In the ventilation unit, the outside air is filtered and heated. To do this, it is passed through a heat exchanger and tempered with the warm exhaust air from the building. Fresh air and exhaust air do not come into contact with each other. The fresh air is fed into the living rooms and bedrooms via the supply air duct. It then flows through the hallway to the kitchen and bathrooms. From there, the "used" air returns to the ventilation unit via the exhaust air duct, is used in the heat exchanger to heat the fresh air, and is then fed outside via the exhaust air duct.

Energy efficiency

High energy losses due to window ventilation are a thing of the past with comfort ventilation systems. A heat exchanger uses the warm exhaust air from the interior rooms to heat the fresh air. In addition to comfort reasons, investing in a comfort ventilation system also helps to ensure the long-term value of a building.

For allergy sufferers

Pollen and (fine) dust are filtered out of the outside air by high-quality filters. Dust in the room is continuously removed by the exhaust air flow. Insects stay outside.

Free of pollutants and unpleasant odors

CO2 and pollutants are removed (emissions from furniture, adhesives, household chemicals such as formaldehyde).

Odors from rooms with odor sources (kitchen, bathroom, toilet) are removed directly.

The reliable removal of moisture prevents mold damage. Mite growth is restricted.

Ideal temperature and fresh air regulation

Geothermal heat exchangers allow you to use environmental heat to preheat the outside air in winter and cool it in summer at no cost.

The windows can remain closed—but they don't have to. If you feel like opening the windows, you can do so at any time. However, you will notice that you rarely feel like doing so, especially in winter!

Reservations & limitations

Comfort ventilation systems are not yet widely used. As with any new technology that few people are familiar with, there are reservations and unjustified prejudices. On the other hand, exaggerated expectations and false promises lead to disappointment. A comfort ventilation system is only intended to replace stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air that has been preheated to a comfortable temperature.
