Description
"What the group Flamencos en route shows is flamenco at its best ..."
Neue Zürcher Zeitung
In the European dance scene, the company stands for continuous creation, a joy of experimentation and uninterrupted creativity that is second to none. In the 35 years of its existence, its productions have lost none of their narrative power and diversity.
Dance contextA piece of dance history - The dance company Flamencos en route grew out of the long-standing friendship and fruitful collaboration between Susana and Brigitta Luisa Merki . A unique dance language in the European dance scene is created through continuous creativity.
In 1984, Brigitta Luisa Merki founded the dance company Flamencos en route. As artistic director, the then master student was able to win over her long-time teacher and mentor, Susana. Susana, who became legendary as dancer of the duo "Susana y José", as choreographer and teacher at the National Ballet School and National Ballet of Toronto, Mudra Schule Béjart, Brussels, Ballett Opernhaus, Zurich. International summer courses worldwide. Her pedagogical work was featured in an impressive documentary film "Flamenco at 5:15" and honored with an Oscar in 1984.From 1948 to 1970, "Susana y José" danced on all the major stages around the world. They transferred authentic flamenco to the stage, transformed the folk dances into art and began to tell stories with it even then. They set standards for interpretation in the theater. Their dance evenings were artfully constructed, with carefully analyzed rhythms, with their own controlled elemental force and wildness. The individual numbers were related to each other in form and content; a novelty. They took up themes, characters and their stories, such as the fates of Carmen, Orpheus or Don Juan. This literary material was reduced to its core, with interest focused on the passionate relationships between men and women. This new form of dance transposition of literary precepts, the peeling away of psychological cores and human archetypes made them world-famous.
The music for these works was created by Antonio Robledo , composer and Susana's life partner.
Susana and Antonio Robledo had been the artistic directors of the dance company Flamencos en route since its foundation in 1984, to which they are still deeply connected today and for which Antonio Robledo continued to compose the music.
In 1994, Brigitta Luisa Merki took over the management and artistic direction of the company.
The very intensive collaboration with Susana and Antonio Robledo resulted in an organically grown form of further development.
