The Basel Museum of Pharmacy History
The "Pharmacy Museum" houses collections of old medicines and pharmacies, laboratory utensils, ceramics, instruments, books, art, and handicrafts. The museum is located in the "Haus zum vorderen Sessel," where Paracelsus and Erasmus once frequented. It is a place of interest not only for experts but also for laypeople.
Materia medica
Purely rational considerations and objective healing successes were not always considered the standard for the quality of a medicine. The collections of mineral, plant, and animal-based remedies that are no longer in use today, as well as amulets, plague remedies, and pendant medicines, provide an overview of the changes and errors in medicine in earlier times.
