Marriage, inheritance law, and matrimonial property law

"Prevention is better than cure!"

In order to avoid disappointed survivors, disputes among heirs, or difficult-to-resolve conflicts, it is advisable to deal with matrimonial property and inheritance law in good time. It is often better to determine individual, legally agreed arrangements than to rely on the standard provisions. The law offers considerable leeway in this regard.

For married couples, however, the limits are more restrictive. They must observe matrimonial property law. Matrimonial property law regulates the financial circumstances of spouses during and upon dissolution of the marriage through divorce or death. Inheritance law regulates how the estate is divided among the heirs.
