About me
My name is Carmen Schärer. I live with my husband and our two children in the beautiful Zurich Oberland. I grew up with dogs and it was clear to me from an early age that I wanted to work with animals. That's why I did my apprenticeship as a biomedical analyst at Zurich Animal Hospital, specializing in pathology and microbiology. After this in-depth training with a lot of theoretical knowledge, I quickly lost touch with the patients. So I made a complete change of direction and graduated from police school with the Zurich City Police in 2005. In 2008, I was able to fulfill my dream and switched to working with service dogs. I got an 8-week-old German shepherd puppy called Knox. Unfortunately, luck was not on our side and I had to take Knox out of service after three years. Shortly afterwards, Knox had to have an operation on his back because he was diagnosed with cauda equina syndrome. I began to look intensively into the subject of pain therapy and other forms of therapy. In 2020, I finally decided to train as a dog physiotherapist and completed the diploma course for dog physiotherapists at Canesano AG.
