In summer 2012, Sputnik - the KITA for children aged between two and six - opened its doors. Centrally located between Bern's main railway station and the Inselspital and with child-friendly premises of around 200m2. With just as much garden space, direct, sheltered access from the outside and a mountain view over the rooftops of the city of Bern.

At Sputnik KITA, we offer high-quality childcare for children from the age of two until they start school. It is based on the English preschool model and follows the Montessori pedagogy. Through playing, learning and experiencing, the children are introduced to the diversity of life. For example, meals are prepared together in the children's kitchen, vegetables and fruit are planted in the KITA garden, carrots are counted and name tags are made and labeled for the herb bed.

Children of kindergarten age are supported and prepared for school in accordance with the objectives of the curriculum of the Cantonal Department of Education (ERZ). As kindergarten attendance is compulsory, children must be present at Sputnik Kindergarten at least three full days a week.

The Sputnik Kindergarten has a permit from the ERZ.

Our team consists of pedagogically trained specialists of various ages who have other language skills in addition to German. One or two interns and an apprentice complete the team. We make sure that both genders are represented.

Offer

Today's lifestyle and the demands placed on working parents require flexible childcare. Sputnik KITA meets this demand with opening hours of 12 hours per day and childcare during school vacations. The company vacations are limited to calendar weeks 28, 29, 52 and 01. The KITA is closed on public holidays (Good Friday; Easter Monday; Ascension Day; Whit Monday; August 1).

Children are accepted from the age of 2 until they start school. For educational reasons, a stay of at least 50% per week is desirable. Special arrangements can be made in justified cases.

Children who attend compulsory kindergarten must attend Sputnik kindergarten for at least three full days.

Introduction

Parents who are interested in a KITA place are invited to a taster day with their child. If the child is admitted to Sputnik KITA, the settling-in period is carefully planned together with the parents. The settling-in phase usually lasts around two weeks.
