Swiss Crime Prevention (SCP) is an intercantonal specialist agency in the field of crime and fear of crime prevention. It is supported by the Conference of Cantonal Justice and Police Directors (KKJPD) and operated by a permanent commission of the KKJPD, the so-called Steering Committee of Swiss Crime Prevention. Swiss Crime Prevention is located in the House of the Cantons in Bern.

Networking and exchange with cooperation partners

One of the most important tasks of Swiss Crime Prevention is to strengthen intercantonal police cooperation in the area of crime prevention. It works closely with the prevention officers of the cantonal and municipal police forces on various projects, topics and campaigns and organizes a two-day exchange once a year. Swiss Crime Prevention also maintains close contact with the Federal Office of Police. In addition to other state and cantonal actors from all regions of Switzerland, its network also includes various NGOs.

Providing prevention messages to the population

Another important task of Swiss Crime Prevention is to educate the population about criminal phenomena, prevention options and offers of help. This includes the production of brochures, leaflets and similar on specific crime prevention topics (e.g. burglary, stalking, civil courage) and for specific target groups, such as young people or senior citizens. In their blog the employees of Swiss Crime Prevention write articles on various aspects of crime prevention and address new phenomena. This also includes current warnings about phishing attacks and other scams. Swiss Crime Prevention is also active on Facebook and Twitter

Training and further education

Swiss Crime Prevention is involved in the training and further education of police officers in the field of crime prevention and works closely with the Swiss Police Institute SPI to this end. At meetings and conferences, it gives presentations and workshops on specific crime prevention topics and communicates the latest scientific findings.

Swiss Crime Prevention maintains a database with the current prevention materials of the cantonal and municipal police forces on its intranet.
