History
The BG Aare was founded on March 17, 1921 through a merger between the city of Bern and Bernese craftsmen. At that time as the "Gemeinnützige Genossenschaft Tscharnerstrasse". As a result of the First World War, the country was in a severe economic crisis, the construction industry was short of orders and people were unemployed. The founders made a virtue out of necessity and built affordable apartments for transport company employees on Tscharnerstrasse.
1923 Move into the apartments on Tscharnerstrasse.This remained the only business until the 1950s.
1965 Change of name to "Baugenossenschaft Tscharnerstrasse". The properties on Tscharnerstrasse are exchanged for a building lease for land in Seftau Bremgarten.
1969
Renamed Baugenossenschaft Aare Bern. From then on, it focuses on the northern border of the city.
1972
Three apartment blocks with a total of 46 3- to 4-room apartments are built in Seftau Bremgarten under building rights.
From the 1970-ies, BG Aare has specialized in the construction and operation of retirement homes.
To date, BG Aare has built 280 age-appropriate residential units in the city of Bern.
1978 Opening of the Wylers retirement and nursing home. The offer hits the nerve of the times and the first residents move in during the construction period.
1984 Construction and takeover of ElfenauPark with apartments for senior citizens, a public restaurant and a wide range of leisure activities for residents.1988 The extension to Dr. Alfred Bretscher's villa is built and the property is divided into small apartments. The Grüneck retirement villa opens its doors. Dr. Bretscher receives a right of residence for life.
1992 Senevita takes over the management of Seniorenvilla Grüneck. At the end of 2016, Dr. Bretscher passes away and his premises are integrated into the retirement home.1995 Establishment of the Manuel Foundation to support pensioners in financial need. The foundation organizes public cultural events and contributes to the costs of the home.2004 Property purchase of the apartment building built in 1910 on Berchtoldstrasse. The building is then partially renovated and offers attractive living space in the Länggass district.2007 Acquisition of the building rights for a plot of land on Chutzenstrasse in Bremgarten. The building, constructed in 2010, houses 17 serviced apartments for the elderly and a daycare center.2015Acquisition of the mid-terrace building on Greyerzstrasse, built in 1970, with ten apartments and four offices.
In 2017 b20 - serviced apartments bern opens, the first apartment building in Bern with 60 furnished studios for temporary living and additional services.
2021 The Holliger housing estate is built. Start of construction of the BG Aare residential building with 40 non-profit apartments for families.
