Walther + Müller Glasbau AG

For decades, Walther + Müller Glasbau AG has been one of the few Swiss suppliers and fabricators of glass blocks. Glass blocks are primarily used for facade elements, stairwells, and interior partition walls.

Like conventional building blocks, glass blocks are installed as walls, floors, and roofs. For floor constructions, we cast custom concrete elements in our own factory, which are then installed on-site. Despite their translucency, these floors can be walked on and even driven over by cars.

The advantages of glass blocks are high light transmission and minimal maintenance. Thanks to their closed interior, glass blocks also possess thermal and sound insulation properties.

As a certified company, we are also authorized to professionally install fire-resistant blocks. We would be happy to advise you on colors, sizes, and surface textures.

The objective was to design and install a freestanding glass block wall in the middle of a beautiful park that could withstand wind and weather.

The requirements were that it be translucent, lightweight in construction, and walkable. The client and architects planned this very well, and together with them, we were able to implement the canopy according to plan.

Instead of a fixed 90° corner, the client wanted this element to have a much "softer" visual appearance. Following our innovative proposal, we were able to carry out the work as planned.

For these walls, which were constructed using 30x30x10 cm clear decorative glass blocks, the primary focus was on ensuring they could withstand wind and weather.

We had the opportunity to execute a very interesting project in collaboration with an engineer, a construction planner, architects, and a renowned railway company.

Whether as an architectural highlight or a functional partition—a glass block wall combines tradition with contemporary design and enhances the entire entrance to the parking and bicycle area in a lasting way.
