What does the registry officedo
Every death is reported by the registry office of the place of death to the following authorities:
- Resident registration office of the place of residence
- Central Compensation Office AHV
- If the deceased is a German, Italian, or Austrian citizen, notification to the civil registry office of that country
- For foreign nationals, notification of death to the representative of the home country
- Federal Office for Migration, if one of the parents is an asylum seeker, has been granted temporary admission or is recognized as a refugee
- If the deceased has minor children, notification to the guardianship authority
The civil registry office of the deceased's last place of residence informs the administrative offices within the municipality (resident registration office, municipal tax office, municipal branch of the Social Insurance Institution of the Canton of Aargau [sva], etc.) and reports the death to the district court president (opening of the will).
Death certificate
Based on the entry in the civil register, the civil registry office of the place of death can issue extracts (death certificates). These can be reissued at any time (fee CHF 25.00).
