The idea at the beginning
Flaxseed has played an important role in horse feed since ancient times. The positive effects of flaxseed on the digestive tract and coat of horses are well known.
Heinz Keller Futterspezialitäten GmbH is a company that has been producing feed supplements for 40 years. The ingredients and compositions of the various active ingredients are mainly based on tradition and experience in the use of herbal preparations. From time to time, however, the company also commissions technical laboratories to confirm the effectiveness and tolerability of the feed supplements using the latest analytical methods. The 1989 study focused on the effects of flaxseed.
Heinz Keller's father was a horse dealer. His mother always had to cook flaxseed so that the horses for sale could be presented in the best possible light. Heinz Keller couldn't get this out of his head and looked for a simpler solution. Thanks to his many years of experience from his previous job as a product developer in the food industry, he experimented with various processes such as extrusion, puffing, roasting, and steaming, to name but a few, all of which he ruled out due to unsatisfactory results.
In 1989, he found the solution for producing his "genuine cooked/dried flaxseed" and had it patented.
On April 7, 1989, he was able to present this new and unique product, "real flaxseed cooked/dried," to the public for the first time at the OFFA in St. Gallen. Experts from the horse world immediately recognized the unmatched properties of this product. As a result, "genuine flaxseed, cooked/dried" soon achieved unparalleled popularity.
It was his greatest wish that this unique product would benefit as many horses as possible. This is because "Keller's genuine cooked/dried linseed" is not only beneficial for the digestive tract, skin, and hair, but also makes the muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and hooves more supple—which is particularly beneficial when riding and breeding.
