Description
One parish - three parishes
The Catholic parish of Chur comprises the Roman Catholic inhabitants of the city of Chur and the municipalities of Tschiertschen-Praden, Haldenstein and part of the municipality of Churwalden (Passugg). The parish is divided into three parishes:
Cathedral parish, Savior parish and Holy Cross parish.
From the history
After the Reformation (the city was reformed, the courtyard with the cathedral remained Catholic), the Catholics were looked after from the cathedral, which then became the Catholic parish church for the whole city from the 17th century onwards.
The sharp increase in the number of Catholics led to the establishment of a Catholic parish being considered at the beginning of the 20th century. On March 20, 1921, over 200 assembled Catholics voted for the creation of such a parish. With the election of the first parish council on July 12, 1921, the foundation was practically completed. The Church of the Redeemer was consecrated in 1935. The parish vicariate, which was dependent on the cathedral, became an independent parish in 1985 (?). With the construction of the Church of the Holy Cross at the end of the 1960s, the parish of the same name was founded in 1985 (?).
The Titthof parish hall was inaugurated for the entire parish on December 11, 1982.
