La Chenille is one of the City of Fribourg's subsidized pre-school facilities. It is located in the heart of Fribourg's multicultural Schoenberg district. It is surrounded by rental buildings, on a dead-end street leading to the shops. The premises are on the second floor of a large " Swisscom " building.

La Chenille was founded in the 1990s by the former Director: creation of a nursery school and daycare center at the time. Currently named Maternelle/Garderie because it's not a "school" but an extra-familial reception. It welcomes children aged 2-4. In 2014, the Crèche was added to the Maternelle/Garderie and opened its doors to welcome 34 children aged 0-4.

These two Sectors operate differently :

The Maternelle is open from September to June (school year) every morning from 08:30 to 11:30 and welcomes a maximum of 10 children per half-day. The Garderie is open every afternoon from 13:30 to 18:00 and also welcomes a maximum of 10 children per half-day. It remains closed during all school vacations and official public holidays. To register, parents go directly to the administration and/or the educational team during an open day in May. As long as space is available, registrations can be made at any time. The Crèche is open all year round from 6.45am to 6.15pm. It accommodates 16 children in Nursery (two sub-groups: 6 Babies and 10 Mini Trotters) and 18 children in Trotters (also separated into sub-groups to encourage activities and outings). It remains closed for 2 weeks in winter for the end-of-year festivities and 3 weeks in summer (last week of July and first two weeks of August), as well as on official holidays. To register, families must first go through the centralized waiting list of Fribourg's crèches (LAC) on the Internet. Then, the Director or Secretary contacts families interested in the Crèche to visit the premises and hand out enrolment documents. Rates are handled by the City of Fribourg.

La Chenille's educational team comprises  :

-        Socio-educational assistants (ASE CFC),

-        Auxiliaries,

-         Personnel in training (trainees, apprentices, ES child educators).

At the bursar's office, an employee ensures the cleanliness of the premises and kitchen.

La Chenille's educational team draws on various educational theories and draws inspiration from a number of pedagogues to welcome and accompany children within the structure. Our pedagogical approach is not based on a single core practice, but draws on a wide range of studies and philosophies designed to enhance the child's value and enable him or her to develop harmoniously and safely.
