Description
Caritas grocery stores
Caritas grocery stores offer foodstuffs and basic necessities at reduced prices to people on a tight budget. They are open to anyone with a legitimation card distributed by a public or private social service.
An assortment of basic food products (sugar, flour, oil, pasta, orange juice, etc.), as well as daily hygiene and care products (cleaning, laundry, and care products, etc.) are guaranteed, at prices lower than traditional retail. Fruits and vegetables delivered daily are also an integral part of the assortment.
While maintaining accessible prices and the quality of products and services on offer are a priority, our grocery stores also offer other social services. They are subject to the same legislation as traditional retail outlets, so they are a place for training and social reintegration close to the market. They also train apprentices in collaboration with the Caritas Genève training program (Service Formation jeunes).
Who has access to Caritas grocery stores?
Any person, with or without children, with a personal legitimation card issued and certified by a public or private welfare service. This card attests that the holder has a low income. It must be presented by the user at each visit.
Who are our partners?
21 Caritas grocery stores exist nationwide, forming the Caritas-Markt network. The vast majority of the products offered in these grocery stores come from the Caritas Switzerland central purchasing office in Sempach (LU), which sources, buys and receives goods from over 300 suppliers, the main ones being Coop, Denner, Emmi and Migros, etc.
.A collaboration with a private foundation ensures top-quality fruit and vegetables at low prices, as part of the "healthy and cheap" program.
