Description
The HEMU - Haute École de Musique is an educational institution renowned for its elite, demanding and comprehensive training, as well as for its complicity with professional circles and its commitment to musical life. Multidisciplinary and multi-style, it covers all training profiles in classical, jazz and current music.
Located in the heart of Europe and French-speaking Switzerland, where it welcomes over 500 students of 39 different nationalities, the HEMU offers university-level teaching. Emphasizing both theory and practice, its Bachelor's and Master's programs are designed to ensure immediate access to the professional world. Its teaching staff, made up of many internationally renowned artists, guarantees its students a high level of supervision.
The HEMU offers numerous workshops, ensemble activities, courses and concerts. Each year, it produces over 300 public performances. Its attractiveness is also measured by the masterclasses given by prestigious musicians and by the partnerships forged with internationally recognized institutions which, in addition to providing students with gratifying formative experiences, enable them to build up a network.
The HEMU's Bachelor's degree is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their musical skills.
Bachelor's and Master's degrees are accredited by the Swiss Confederation and recognized internationally. Since 2009, the HEMU has been part of the "Music and Performing Arts" field of the Haute école spécialisée de Suisse occidentale (HES-SO), Switzerland's largest network of higher professional education, with 19,400 students.

The HEMU - Fribourg-Freiburg consists of four buildings that are shared with the Conservatoire de Fribourg. Established in one of the towns boasting the finest medieval architectural ensemble in Europe, this site is home to students studying for Masters degrees in Wind Ensemble Conducting, as well as Bachelors and Masters degrees in all disciplines of brass, voice, music education in schools (MUSEC), piano and organ.
