Gruyères in French, Greyerz in German, is one of the most typical localities in French-speaking Switzerland. For lovers of geraniums, accordions and... cheese, of course! It's a commune where life is good, and which is developing harmoniously.

This little town at the gateway to the Alps gave its name to the famous cheese that grew up in its mountains. Nestling at the foot of the Moléson (2002 m.), the Dent de Broc (1830 m.) and the Dent du Chamois (1340 m.), at an altitude of 830 m., Gruyères is made up of four distinct parts: the old town perched on a hill and, further down on the plain, the villages of Epagny, Pringy and the resort of Moléson-Village, which rises to an altitude of 1130 m. The commune currently has a population of 2,350.
The ancient fortified town of Gruyères is a jewel in the crown. Forbidden to cars, pedestrians from all over the world tread its famous cobbled main street, on which are squeezed remarkable homes that sport proud heraldic cranes, symbols of the town.
