In 1980, Giacinto Bertazzoli purchased Grotto Angela, nestled in the tranquility of the village of Iragna. A choice dictated by the enchanting location, at the foot of the mountain, far from traffic and noise, and surrounded by a magnificent chestnut grove: the perfect setting for an authentic Ticino grotto.
It was, however, in February 1982 that he finally realized his dream: to open, together with his wife Vincenza, a small business of his own, after years of experience gained in hotels and restaurants.
From the very first days, Giacinto won everyone over with his simple, genuine cuisine, with attention to detail. His passion and hospitality soon made him a landmark in the gastronomic scene in Ticino and beyond the Gotthard.
In 2012, on the occasion of his 30th anniversary, Vincenza and her children Roberto and Cristina decided to pay tribute to Giacinto's dedication. Thus, Grotto Angela officially took on the name by which it was now already known to all loyal customers: Osteria Da Giacinto - or more affectionately, "il Grott dal Giaci".
The cuisine
The basis of every dish: fresh, seasonal ingredients and traditional recipes, revisited with taste and sensitivity.
The journey begins with a platter of local cured meats, enriched by calf's liver pâté, followed by strictly homemade cannelloni and crespelle: a taste that anticipates the real stars of the table.
First-rate meats - beef, lamb, veal and other specialties - are grilled and enhanced by flavors selected by Chef Roberto.
In autumn and winter, the scene is dominated by game, accompanied by rustic polenta and porcini mushrooms. Spring brings with it the scents of thyme and rosemary, which enhance the flavor of roast kid.
Summer, on the other hand, is the time for lighter, fresher dishes: beef carpaccio, tartare and roast-beef, trout carpione and tasty lobster salads.
To round off a generous meal: a selection of cheeses from the Ticino Alps or one of our homemade desserts.
We look forward to seeing you discover the entire menu and, at noon, our menu of the day.
