General information about hair

Hair is an appendage of the skin (and for many people, it looks like it too ;-), which develops in the third month of embryonic development. At the same time, hair is the most beautiful adornment a person can have, and fortunately, it always grows back ;-), unless male hormones get in the way, but even then there are pills and remedies that are already proving very successful.

Keratin smoothing

Keratin smoothing originated in Brazil and is supposed to give our hair what many of us want—smooth, shiny hair without having to tame it with a flat iron after every wash. If the sebaceous glands on the head produce too little oil, the scalp and hair become dry and brittle. The main cause of this phenomenon is environmental influences, but predisposition also plays a major role. Diet should also be taken into account.

Hair that lacks shine and appears dull and brittle like straw – these are the "symptoms" of dry hair. The reason for dryness on the scalp is simple: the sebaceous glands produce too little oil to keep the hair moist. This is usually triggered by environmental influences such as heat, dry air at work, and sun exposure.

Another reason can be excessive hair care (using the wrong shampoos or soaps) or too frequent use of hair dryers and straightening irons. Illnesses such as hypothyroidism or anorexia nervosa, or malnutrition, are rarely the cause.
Damaged hair
Dry hair is not the same as damaged hair. In the former, the layers of the hair remain intact.
Neither the cuticle, the outermost layer, nor the cortex (middle layer) or the core (medulla) show any changes in people with dry curls. In contrast, damaged hair is functionally impaired, for example by frequent dyeing, bleaching, and perming. The chemical structure is altered down to the middle layer of the hair, and the cortex is porous and not very resistant.

Split ends
Split ends refer to the fraying and splitting of the hair tips. Split ends occur mainly in long hair, caused by the hair rubbing against the shoulders. One of the reasons for split ends is environmental influences such as strong sunlight or excessive styling, to which the hair has been exposed over a period of several years. Split ends are also caused by frequent hair coloring.
The treatment involves cutting the hair short, and hair treatments with a high lipid content are also recommended. Panthenol can repair about a third of minor hair breakage and split ends, or you can have a keratin treatment to prevent further split ends. A tip fluid is also essential.
