Why consult a podiatrist?

The foot is a fundamental element of the human body: it supports our weight, enables us to walk and move around... So it's important to take care of it. Children, teenagers, adults and the elderly can all be affected by foot problems that affect gait and can make certain sporting or even daily activities difficult. So don't hesitate to contact a podiatrist in the event of pain.

The role of the podiatrist

The podiatrist is a healthcare professional dedicated to feet. He intervenes primarily in the treatment of nail and skin disorders. The aim is to relieve pain, but also to understand its origins. He must also pass on some of his knowledge to the patient (daily supervision, hygiene, appropriate nail cutting, gestures to avoid, choice of footwear...) so that he can take care of them on a daily basis.

When to consult a podiatrist?

• Annormal wear of shoes.
• Pain when walking or during sport, in the feet, legs, back, and more generally the entire locomotor system. 
• In case of skin and nail problems (nails): corns, calluses, deformed nails, ingrown toenails, mycosis.... 
• You're getting ready for a hike or a marathon: the podiatrist offers you a check-up to safeguard against possible injuries linked to static and dynamic disorders of the lower limb; he'll also give you valuable advice to preserve your feet.
• You're worried about your children's gait. 
• You are diabetic: your feet require special attention. The podiatrist will carry out preventive care, and explain to you what to do to protect them from possible injury.

At the practice Astrid BEDDELEEM will be able to take care of you for all skin and nail problems and guide you in the best way for the management of architectural deformities. She can also provide total care for diabetic patients. The complications of diabetes affecting the feet are closely linked to the reduced sensitivity of the contact nerves, preventing the perception of small injuries or abnormalities of the foot (corns, calluses, cracks, fissures, mycosis...), which eventually become amplified and infected.

Consulting your podiatrist on a regular basis will enable you to have a follow-up and prevent possible complications. You'll also receive advice on everyday gestures. 

Podiatrists are required to undergo training throughout their career to keep their knowledge up to date in the face of a constantly changing medical world.

Where to find the podiatry practice?

The practice is located in the center of La Chaux-de-Fonds, a 5-minute walk from the SBB train station and right next to the "CF Espacité" bus stop (Lines 301, 302, 312, 352, 371, 450). The practice is located in place of the premises of Marie-Anne JACOT from whom Astrid BEDDELEEM took over the business in January 2020.
