Simply huddled around the church, the old buildings of the village of Lens bear witness to the ancient cutlass of this region. Lens is the administrative center of a commune that stretches from the plains to the mountains, from the coteau de Flanthey to the tourist resort of Crans-Montana
.Lens, a commune with a surface area of 1,386 ha and a population of over 4,000.
A commune set on three levels (560 m-2543 m), the plain, the hillside and its vineyards, the mountains and their summer and winter tourism.
A commune comprising 8 villages, including Lens, the commune's political capital, and the resort of Crans-Montana.

In 2004, the six communes of the Haut-Plateau, Icogne, Lens, Chermignon, Montana, Randogne and Mollens formed themselves into Association des communes de Crans-Montana.
In 2017, a brand new commune, CRANS-MONTANA, formed from the merger of the 4 communes of Chermignon, Montana, Randogne and Mollens, made its appearance in the political field of the Haut-Plateau, which from then on consisted of only three communes, namely Icogne, Lens and Crans-Montana.
