Respectful and personal at your side
Together with you, we want to make the funeral and burial a special moment that will remain a fond memory for family, friends, and acquaintances. What kind of person was the deceased, and what is important to you as you say goodbye? Tell us about it. We welcome you to the pleasant, friendly atmosphere of our premises in Basel, Binningen, or Laufen, and we are also happy to visit you at home.
Transport
Bestattungen Hans Heinis is known as a specialist in worldwide transfers by hearse or airplane. We are very familiar with the cultural and legal particularities of each country and, together with our partners, we will assist you in obtaining the necessary documents.
Comprehensive assistance
We relieve you of all the tasks you entrust to us. Whether it's registrations and deregistrations, clearing out rooms, household clearances, executing wills, obtaining documents, or finding experts to sell real estate—we support you with all the formalities so that you have time to grieve.
Funeral
In the funeral halls of the region, we organize the farewell individually according to your ideas and in keeping with the personality of the deceased. Whether it's floral arrangements, music selection, or decoration of the premises, coffin, or urn – we advise you competently and with a flair for that special something.
Speech & support
We would particularly like to recommend our funeral speaker and bereavement counselor Esther Barandun. With her wonderful words, she brings the personality of the deceased to life once again and helps you find your way back to life step by step during the difficult time of mourning.

Funeral, a question of personality
Burial
When burying the coffin, you can choose between different types of graves: a row grave with free use for 20 years or a family grave with paid use for 40 years. You can take care of the grave yourself or leave it to the cemetery administration.
Cremation
After the coffin has been cremated, there are a variety of burial options for the urn. Cemeteries offer free graves such as urn row graves and communal graves, as well as graves subject to a fee such as urn niches or meadow, urn family, and tree graves. In addition to a variety of alternative burial options outside the cemetery, you also have the option of taking the urn home with you.
River burial
A Rhine burial is a wonderful form of burial for Basel residents and lovers of the Rhine. After a small farewell ceremony, the urn of the deceased is buried in silence or in the presence of relatives on one of four Rhine ferries. On request, the ceremony can be accompanied by music and a solemn speech by the captain. Of course, we can also arrange burials in other rivers and lakes. Just get in touch with us!
Aerial burial
To fly once and be gently scattered to the winds – for many people, this is a beautiful idea that we at Bestattungen Hans Heinis make come true. The scattering of ashes from a small aircraft, flown by Cyrill Thoma himself, is a popular service offered by our company. Of course, we can also arrange other aircraft burials or a balloon burial. We would be happy to advise you.
Forest burial
For many people, the forest is not only an idyllic place of peace during their lifetime – burial in so-called burial forests is also becoming increasingly popular. In this nature-loving forest burial, the ashes are buried at the foot of a magnificent tree. Over time, the tree absorbs the ashes through its roots and the deceased is thus reintegrated into the cycle of life. We are also happy to offer you the private forest of Bestattungen Hans Heinis as a resting place. You are cordially invited to a guided tour of the site!
Preparing for death means security
Many people have clear ideas about their final journey—or at least about what they definitely want or definitely don't want. Think about it for yourself: How do you imagine your farewell? How should your funeral be arranged? What music will be played? And where would you like to find your final resting place? By recording your wishes and those of your relatives in a funeral provision contract, you remain self-determined even in death and can face life with greater serenity. We would be happy to discuss all legal and social issues with you.
Work with us to record your funeral wishes in detail—and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing that everything is taken care of.

Coffins and urns from classic to modern
Carefully selecting a coffin or urn is a final expression of love. Whether classic, modern, or individual—our extensive range of coffins and urns caters to a wide variety of preferences. Simply let yourself be inspired by the diverse materials, colors, and shapes. We would be happy to show you many of the urn models shown here in our funeral homes in Basel, Binningen, and Laufen.
Funeral stationery, as individual as a life lived
Funeral circulars do not always have to be classic black and white. We are happy to design and print funeral announcements, cards, and acknowledgments that are as diverse and colorful as the life and personality of your deceased loved one. With a personal picture or a special text that matches their hobby or character. Talk to us about your ideas! At Heinis Druckerei, we produce your individual funeral stationery and also take care of publishing the obituary and sending out the funeral cards in good time.
Undertakers with a love for people
Located in the heart of Basel and at our locations in Binningen, Laufen, and Liestal, we are your experienced companions in all matters relating to funerals – and have been for 130 years. We always act in your best interests and support you reliably with empathy and tact. As funeral directors with a federal certificate of proficiency and members of the Swiss Professional Association, we have always strived for the highest quality. This is evident in small gestures such as the white rose we leave behind when we collect the deceased as a sign of a life lived.
Our company has stood for quality since 1888
With our funeral home Hans Heinis, formerly Matthey-Meier, we are now celebrating our 130th anniversary. During this time, we have gained invaluable experience in dealing with death, grief, and hope. Whether in providing sensitive advice to the bereaved and those making provisions for the future, or in the personal design and implementation of funerals and burials, we have always placed great emphasis on quality. In doing so, we uphold dignified traditions, break new ground, and treat everyone who comes to us with respect and openness.
