In November 1996, the pet store amaZOOnas was born. Suitable premises were found in Lucerne-Littau: 350 m2 of store space and 350 m2 of outdoor space in a green setting. This green space was a decisive factor for the owners Nicole von Däniken and Roberto Topatigh when choosing the business location. After all, keeping animals outdoors, adapted to their needs, is simply more species-appropriate than keeping them indoors. "Our outdoor facilities consist of a 20 m3 aviary with large yellow-headed amazons, a 150 m2 outdoor enclosure for dwarf goats, rabbits and guinea pigs, as well as five ponds." The ponds are home to koi and goldfish as well as native fish species such as tench, rudd, common whitefish, minnow, bitterling, pond mussels and many more. From spring to fall, amaZOOnas stocks the largest range of native pond and organic fish in the region. An exotic palm garden gives the outdoor facilities a Mediterranean flair during the warmer months of the year.

amaZOOnas breaks away from existing pet store norms by designing its facilities to be as spacious and natural as possible. In the aquarium department, there is no tank that holds less than 96 liters, while the larger tanks hold between 300 and 1800 liters. The water turtle pond covers 6 m2, while the tropical rainforest terrarium for water dragons has a floor area of 6 m2 and is 2.5 m high. Large bearded dragons live in a 4 m2 terrarium. We keep our exotic birds in 2.6 m high aviaries with a floor area of 2 m2. Our koi swim in a 5000 liter pond with a waterfall, which is lined with lush vegetation.

An important aspect of species-appropriate animal husbandry is to incorporate nature. Plants, stone structures, climbing branches, waterfalls, caves, plenty of hiding places and, of course, lots of space can be used to create natural environments in which our animals feel at home. This also includes a healthy, varied diet with regular vitamin supplements and fresh food. The importance of UVA and UVB radiation is well known in terraristics and must be available to all reptiles unfiltered and adapted to the needs of the respective species.

amaZOOnas is constantly striving to expand its standard range and offers the interested and knowledgeable pet owner rarities time and again. This has resulted in a range of freshwater, brackish water and saltwater fish, corals, amphibians, lizards, snakes, turtles, tarantulas, scorpions, insects, rodents and birds that is unique in central Switzerland. amaZOOnas is a specialist pet store that clearly distances itself from supermarkets and discount stores. It is an independent private company that focuses on competent, expert advice and vouches for the quality of its products. In addition to all this, amaZOOnas also aims to provide an experience of nature. Open-air enclosures, large aviaries, show aquariums and terrariums set up close to nature, ponds, palm trees and banana trees all tempt visitors into tropical fantasies.
