COMPETENCES

The podiatrist is a federally certified health professional recognized by the health department, who is involved in the prevention and treatment of foot disorders. He clinically evaluates the structure, function, and complications of the extremities.

By means of objective examination  and use of instrumental examinations he treats algic states of the foot, treating different types of skin thickening, onychopathies, onychocryptosis and warts, makes devices for correcting the shape of the nail plate ( orthonixia ); designs medical silicone orthoses to improve digital alignment, protect bony protrusions and alleviate painful conditions from conflict with footwear ( hallux valgus, hammertoes, claw toes, etc.) He also devotes great attention to the care of the diabetic patient.

The podiatry center provides therapies and treatments for ortonixia, which corrects and modifies the curvature and growth of nails subject to involution The purpose is the correction of the shape of the altered nail laminae, for those suffering from ingrown nails.

A tyloma is defined as a localized hyperkeratosis : it is a rounded and demarcated area of hyperkeratosis at a plantar or dorsal rubbing point.

Plantar tiloma generally involves small surfaces, but extending deep into the area.

The podiatrist is authorized to perform the treatment of onychocryptosis in a bloodless, painless and noninvasive form.

 

DIABETIC FOOT CARE

Today's major problems for diabetics are related to the chronic complications that this disease brings to various organs and systems, including the feet.

We speak of diabetic feet when damage to the arteries of the nerves in the lower limbs impair the function and/or structure of the foot.

A proper and daily foot care and hygiene, is essential for diabetics : to prevent loss of sensation and/or alterations in foot shape and ulcers or sores that do not heal

 

SILICONE PODOLOGICAL ORTHESIS

ORTHOESESES TO BE WEAR IN FOOTWEAR

Silicone orthoses are used during the day, with regular shoes, and are intended mainly for the toes  and forefoot. They can perform several functions :

- corrective function, when they serve to reduce reducible deformities or correct postural defects.

- Protective function, when they are used to insulate an injured part.

- Replacement function, when they replace a part of the foot in the case AD example of big toe amputation.
