Eckhard Wollwage is undoubtedly one of the most important and interesting contemporary sculptors in Liechtenstein. His professional career and decision to diversify his training seem rather unusual. His childhood and youth were shaped by the influence of an artistically interested family, as well as by playing and working with earthy and natural materials. His affinity with natural raw materials, such as wood, allowed him to try his hand at woodturning and then carpentry. His professional involvement did not seem to have been entirely satisfactory until he trained as a construction foreman, although, as Eckhard Wollwage says today, the problems he encountered with historical building structures presented him with a healthy challenge.

In a seemingly satisfied summary, the sculptor notes how important the individual stages are for the goal he had set out to achieve and has now achieved. His understanding of sculpture has grown from dealing with "complicated geometry", which is considered an essential part of carpentry and stonemasonry work, whereby here in particular the concentration on the surface and the view of dissolving everything round into surfaces became the absolute benchmark for him.

In addition to the challenge of analytical and constructive thinking, the inevitable confrontation with material-specific working techniques is a top priority in all the professions he has learned. From this important experience, based on a healthy understanding of nature, a sensitivity for the material matured, in particular for stone, which became trend-setting for stone sculpture, which began in 1995.
