ALBERGO

Built in 1960 and currently run by the Bontognali family, the Cambrena Hotel at Ospizio Bernina has always been the mountain retreat valued by tourists and hikers, workers crossing the pass for work, and those who find themselves in difficulty facing Bernina on snow, blizzard, and foggy days.

Cosy and understated, it is open year-round, offering simple and genuine cuisine, comfortable rooms and breathtaking scenery!

Rooms & PRICES

The rooms are comfortable, the simple furnishings, the brightness and the beautiful view of the surrounding mountains turn your stay into a welcome moment of relaxation. The Cambrena has six rooms: four doubles, one three-bed room and one four-bed room, four of which have a shower and toilet. The facilities of the other rooms are located on the same floor. All rooms have TV and free WiFi internet.

During the warm season, it is a pleasure to enjoy breakfast on the terrace: the fresh air, the wonderful view and the genuineness of the products served allow you to start your day with cheerfulness and good humor! 

RESTAURANT

Restaurants from the region, passersby and tourists alike gladly cross the threshold of the Cambrena Restaurant, located at the top of the Bernina Pass at an elevation of 2,300 meters, open from 5:30 a.m. until late in the evening. In the cozy inn, the warmth of the stove, the subdued chatter of patrons and the friendliness of the manageress provide tranquility and warmth.

On the walls old black-and-white photos depict snow-capped mountains and the winter transit of men and beasts of burden. One full-wall one is particularly striking: it depicts a caravan of sleighs gliding over the snow, pulled by horses with heavy loads of Valtellina wine to be transported to Engadine. It tells the story of the enterprising and courageous coachmen from Valposchiavo.

LOCAL CUISINE

At the Cambrena Restaurant, you can enjoy local dishes and local specialties: "capunet," polenta and mushrooms, pizzoccheri, game, cured meats, cheeses made in the valley, and homemade cakes.

The cozy, intimate atmosphere invites you to enjoy a good fondue with friends, perhaps after a long day of skiing, a challenging hike or a group hunting trip.

Glacier Terrace

From the Glacier Terrace of the Hotel Restaurant Cambrena you can enjoy enchanting views of open spaces, full of charm.

To be admired are the Cambrena Glacier, which gives the hotel its name, Piz Arlas, further north, Sasa Quadra and a glimpse of Lake Bianco, so called because of the clear coloring of its waters, along which one sets out to reach the Sassal Masone mountain, or Alp Grüm, Palü and Cavaglia.

The Bernina range is the highest of all the Central Alps and the only one to exceed 4,000 m in altitude. Generations of mountaineers have tackled its mountains in incredible feats!"
