Valposchiavo stretches from the Bernina Pass, where the Poschiavino River rises, to the gates of Valtellina.
Once a land of farmers and breeders, today the primary sector employs about 10% of the working population in livestock breeding, meat and milk production, herb cultivation, and forestry.

The love and respect of the Valposchiavo people for the land and its products, combined with their entrepreneurial spirit and courage to embrace new ideas, have borne fruit. Targeted business decisions have enabled the primary sector to remain competitive and keep pace with the times.

• 1 million liters of milk processed annually
• 25,000 wheels of cheese in 10 varieties, totaling 100,000 kg
• 10,000 kg of yogurt produced annually
• 50 members, including around 15 milk producers, who approve the cooperative's economic performance and propose and support innovative projects.

Customers ofthe Valposchiavo Dairy appreciate the company's solidity, the professionalism of the producer, the authenticity of the raw materials, and the quality of the BIOSUISSE-certified product.
The dairy has two of its own sales outlets in Valposchiavo:

in San Carlo, at the new Valposchiavo dairy in Li Gleri, the brand new "la Butega dal furmac" direct sales outlet is now open.

Opening hours:

• Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• The dairy is closed on Thursdays

 

In Poschiavo, at the Valposchiavo dairy shop, all the specialties produced at the new facility in San Carlo are available.

Opening hours:

• Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

At the two Valposchiavo dairy stores, you can buy cheese in wheels at a special price.

The Valposchiavo dairy can count on the collaboration of most of the grocery stores in the valley for the sale of its products:

• other small shops and outlets

 

It is sold successfully in various specialist shops in Graubünden, including Coop, Volg, Manor, Sennereigenossenschaft Pontresina, Lesa Lataria Engiadinaisa SA, Rägawurm, and Sundaram AG.

Since 1989, Valposchiavo cheeses have been available and highly appreciated at the weekly market in Chur.

Since January 2013, Coop Ticino has also been selling products from the Valposchiavo dairy!

In the rest of Switzerland, Valposchiavo Dairy products have been available for years at Coop, Migros through Baumann Käse, Chäs & Co. Käsehandel GmbH, Manor-Schwyzer Milchhuus AG, InterCheese AG, Bio-Service, F. Lauper SA, and Emmi Schweiz AG.

The Valposchiavo dairy's organic products are now part of the range and are in high demand and appreciated for their quality and taste.

Swiss organic quality

In 2012, there were 5,731 farms in Switzerland operating in accordance with BIOSUISSE guidelines. Together with a number of other farms that produce in accordance with federal organic standards, farms operating according to organic principles account for 11.3% of all farms in Switzerland. In Poschiavo, more than 90% of the agricultural land is cultivated by BIOSUISSE-certified farms.

The market for organic products is growing steadily; in 2012, sales increased by 5.3% to CHF 1.83 billion. The market for organic food has been growing faster than the market for other foodstuffs for some time.

The reasons for this extraordinary growth lie in greater environmental awareness and the availability of organic products in an increasing number of shops and branches.
