Welcome to your passionate farrier Franziska Hauenstein, based in Rüfenach AG. As an experienced farrier, I offer professional farriery and individual advice for the optimal care and health of your horse - in the Aargau region and beyond.
Well-fitting farriery is essential for the well-being and performance of your horse. I take into account all relevant factors such as health, age, area of use and your horse's previous experience and habits. New objectives are also taken into account in order to select the ideal shoe.
Every shoeing begins with a thorough assessment of the horse's condition from various perspectives. The existing shoe is analyzed in order to assess the wear and make any necessary corrections. By demonstrating the horse walking and trotting, I identify possible lameness and adjust the shoeing accordingly.
Precise trimming and exact alignment with the white line are essential for selecting the right horseshoe. The shoes are prepared as required, be it with stud holes, leather soles, toe pins or hoof grips. A modern alternative is the Duplo shoe, which uses plastic instead of iron. I will be happy to advise you on whether this method is suitable for your horse.
After the horseshoes have been fitted, the horse is presented again at a walk and trot to check for possible improvements or necessary corrections.
More and more horse owners are opting to keep their horses barehoof. I can also provide you with advice and support in this area.
Is your horse already barehoof? I will continue to support you with care and advise you on any problems that arise. Are you considering whether your horse can also go barehoof? I can offer you sound advice to help your horse through the conversion process, which can take up to six months or longer depending on the horse.
Regular hoof care is particularly important for barehoofed horses. Before every ride, the hooves should be thoroughly cleaned and stones removed to minimize the risk of abscesses. Clean hooves are also the prerequisite for an optimal fit of the hoof boots, which reduce the risk of chafing on the bale.
Remember: New hoof boots should be broken in slowly, as with humans, before longer distances are covered.
I look forward to looking after your horse professionally and finding the best solution for hoof health together. Contact me today and benefit from my expertise as a farrier for the Aargau region and neighboring cantons.
