Spitex – Home help and care

The Spitex Association SG|AR|AI is the umbrella organization for around 50 local or regional non-profit Spitex organizations operating in the cantons of SG, AR, and AI.

It is an employers' and professional association that

• supports and advises its members in fulfilling their tasks

• deals with issues relevant to Spitex

• maintains contact with authorities, health insurers, and other organizations in the health and social services sector

• acts as an information hub for members and the public.

What is the purpose of Spitex?
Thanks to Spitex services, those affected can remain at home in their familiar surroundings despite personal limitations or return home earlier from an inpatient stay. The aim of Spitex is to maintain and promote the independence of the client. Spitex employees try to involve the private environment of those affected in the help and care provided whenever possible.

Who can request Spitex?
Spitex is available to all residents of any age who are dependent on support due to illness, accident, disability, infirmity, maternity, or similar circumstances. The decisive factors are necessity and a clarified need. Registration is done through the local Spitex organization.

How is the scope of care/assistance determined?
Before Spitex begins caring for a person, a specialist assesses their exact care and/or assistance needs. This needs assessment is required by law and covered by health insurance. It ensures that the person in question receives neither too little nor too much care.
