Tree pruning
The most common maintenance measure is tree pruning, which should only be carried out by professionally qualified experts:

• the care of the tree
• to preserve the tree and
• to eliminate hazards, e.g. in road traffic

Felling a tree before it falls
If a tree can no longer be preserved, it must be felled. This may be to remove wildlife, prevent disease or avoid danger to people and material (e.g. house roofs) if the tree falls in a storm.

Injuries to the tree
If mechanical injuries to the bark have occurred (e.g. due to ingrown fence wires, lightning strikes, scratches from vehicles when parking, or damage caused by animals, etc.), the bark can no longer perform its natural protective function in these areas and provides an entry point for spores and decay pathogens. Professional care is required here to protect the tree from extensive damage.

Protective measures
At construction sites, trees are particularly at risk from stored building materials, construction machinery, soil compaction, etc. To prevent irreparable damage, it is necessary to protect the tree from harmful influences from root to crown. It is also advisable to protect young trees from game damage if they are easily accessible to wild animals.
