The Säntis – panoramic view across six countries

After only two years of construction, the dream became reality. On July 31, 1935, the suspension railway to Säntis was officially inaugurated. The two cabins each carried 35 passengers. Eighty years have passed since that day, and there have been many changes on Schwägalp and Säntis. The latest major development is the realization of the Schwägalp project with new daytime dining facilities, seminar and banquet rooms, and a 68-room hotel.

The unforgettable ride on the cable car to the summit of the Säntis takes ten wonderful minutes. It operates all year round. People from all over the world meet in the weather-protected viewing halls, on the large sun terraces, and on the comfortable summit paths. Two large panoramic restaurants, shops, and exhibitions welcome visitors with typical Appenzell hospitality. These include unique offers such as romantic full moon trips, impressive sunrise trips, and many attractive package deals.

Gastronomy and hotel on the Schwägalp

Schwägalp also has a lot to offer in terms of gastronomy. In addition to the idyllic Passhöhe restaurant in Appenzell style, we also serve you in the Schwägalp restaurant with its wonderful sun terrace overlooking the imposing Säntis massif. Here we serve you typical dishes: traditions interpreted in a modern way and freshly prepared.

"Säntis – das Hotel" Schwägalp – Uniquely inviting. Nestled in one of Europe's most beautiful mountain settings, we opened the new hotel on the Schwägalp in December 2015 with 68 rooms and junior suites.

Of course, there are many venues. But very few can offer such impressive scenery as Säntis and Schwägalp. The possibilities for supporting programs are endless, e.g., aperitif trips at the DrehBar in the panorama cabin, excursions in the nature adventure park, exciting hikes on the themed trails, and many other exciting indoor and outdoor activities.

The spacious seminar and banquet rooms in the new hotel, as well as the rooms on Säntis, offer modern infrastructure and a special view, as well as the necessary peace and inspiration for your event.

The efficient catering facilities at the three well-maintained establishments on Säntis and Schwägalp are equipped for any occasion. The choice is vast – from simple menus and Appenzell specialties to gala dinners, there is something to suit every taste and budget. This means you can choose from a wide range of modular options.

Hiking in the middle of the Nature Discovery Park / Enjoy nature

Säntis is located at the center of an extensive network of hiking trails: a walk or a tour will take you through a region where Switzerland is still completely unspoiled. The network of hiking trails is also maintained in winter and invites you to experience your own personal winter wonderland.

The Schwägalp/Säntis Nature Discovery Park offers encounters with nature, culture, and the traditions of this unique region. A guidance system leads to all the sights on the five exciting themed trails; interesting points are marked with informative signs. And right next to the hotel on the Schwägalp is the Geology Stone Park, where the history of the Earth becomes a thrilling adventure.
