To ensure that oil, wood and gas firing systems work safely and reliably at all times, the Canton of Zurich building insurance (GVZ) requires regular inspections and cleaning by a licensed chimney sweep.

Clean and economical firing systems make a significant contribution to air pollution control and thus to the preservation of our health. This is why the Ordinance on Air Pollution Control (LRV) requires regular inspections of oil, gas and wood-fired heating systems. In addition, a well-maintained system brings considerable savings in heating costs.

The homeowner can choose their own chimney sweep. They are obliged to organize this mandatory inspection and maintenance on their own responsibility.
