Wauwil with a view / fantastic residential location
Brief profile
Wauwil is located in the heart of the Lucerne Mittelland, in the triangle formed by the three charming rural towns of Sursee, Willisau, and Zofingen. The view over the wide plain of the Wauwilermoos opens up a distant view of the Valais and Bernese Alps.
The unspoiled natural landscape of the Wauwilermoos provides a habitat for numerous animal and plant species. Switzerland's last colony of lapwings breeds here. The Wauwilermoos is included in the inventory of water and migratory bird reserves of national importance.
One of the most important Stone Age sites in Central Europe is located on the southern edge of the village. Since 2009, there has also been a replica pile dwelling settlement here. Information boards along a circular trail explain the excavation sites on the shore of the former Lake Wauwil. The pile dwelling settlements and the archaeological sites are recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.
The S-Bahn station on the Basel-Lucerne SBB line, with trains running every half hour, and the Dagmersellen and Sursee A2 motorway junctions connect us to the 'wider world'. Attractive apartments, service and commercial businesses are soon to be built on the site of the former glassworks.
In 2009, Wauwil was the first Swiss municipality to be awarded the title of 'Child-Friendly Municipality' by UNICEF. We are able to offer the full range of elementary school education here. The Energy City label is a mark of excellence for sustainable energy use. Of the more than 50 commercial and service businesses, Wauwiler Champignons AG is the largest employer.
