  Empty vacation and second homes do not need to be heated

  When you return to your vacation or second home after a long absence, you want to find it at a comfortable temperature, if possible.

  If the empty apartment is heated, this is certainly the case, but it means wasting energy and money.

  If the heating was turned down during your absence, it will take several uncomfortably cool hours for the desired room temperature to be reached. There is also a risk of frost damage if the heating fails.

  There are around 700,000 second homes in Switzerland – many of which are heated throughout the cold season.

  Many of the sporadically occupied second homes and vacation homes are heated to more than 18 degrees Celsius throughout the winter season. The federal government wants to put an end to this waste of energy. Modern technology is a great help in this regard.

  Remote controls can be installed to lower the temperature in unoccupied homes. This allows residents to turn on the heating and set the desired comfort temperature before arriving at their vacation home.
