Information:
FREQUENT EAR CANAL INFLAMMATION?
Diving ear drops are
a good prophylaxis to prevent ear canal inflammation due to frequent
water contact, e.g. for swimmers and divers. They create an
acidic climate in the ear canal that bacteria and fungi do not
like and help the ear canal to dry more quickly.
Because the temperature in the ear canal is around 37°C; together
with moisture, this is an ideal breeding ground for germs.
ARE YOU SNORING
You are not alone with this problem!
Every 4th adult (man and woman) snores regularly. With increasing age
the frequency also increases.
How the snoring noise
arises:
During sleep, the muscles in the
throat relax so that the airways can become blocked. When
breathing, the air now tries to flow past the obstruction.
This creates vibrations that we hear as snoring. The soft palate and the
neck uvula play a
crucial role in this. Obstructed
nasal breathing, obesity, alcohol, sleeping pills or
something similar have a favorable effect.
Banal or dangerous snoring?
Banal snoring mainly disturbs your partner
and is otherwise not harmful to your health.
DANGEROUS snoring, which is accompanied by longer
pauses in breathing (called obstructive
sleep apnoea syndrome), leads to long-term
consequential illnesses
such as high blood pressure and heart disease and must be further clarified in the
sleep laboratory and then treated.
What you can do yourself:
Make sure you are at your ideal weight and avoid
drinking alcohol in the evening.
Pay attention to your sleeping position:
Sleep with your head raised and avoid lying on your back if
possible.
If these measures are not enough, talk to your
doctor. An examination by an ear, nose and throat specialist will show
which measures are appropriate and whether further
examinations are necessary.
TREATMENT POSSIBILITIES:
Depending on the cause of the snoring, various
measures can be considered, such as a dental splint for
snoring.
For example, a dental splint for the
minimal forward displacement of the lower jaw, removal of the
palatine tonsils, shrinkage of the nasal swelling
or positive pressure ventilation (CPAP).
Sometimes a combination of the above
measures is also useful.
Snoring splint: This is a simple, inexpensive and effective
measure to reduce or even eliminate
snoring.
The fitting of such a splint is done individually. We
will be happy to advise you.
