Rheumatology

Rheumatology is concerned with the detection and treatment of so-called rheumatic diseases, although the term is not clearly defined. The term "rheumatism" is commonly used to describe chronic inflammatory changes to the joints and spine, but soft tissue structures and internal organs can also be affected. However, most pain in the musculoskeletal system is not inflammatory in nature.

During my rheumatology orthopaedic training as a double specialist in orthopaedics and rheumatology, I saw many deformed and damaged musculoskeletal structures and performed surgical procedures to improve pain and function.

Orthopaedics

As a specialist in orthopaedics and traumatology, I have over 20 years of surgical experience, including special rheumatic orthopaedic operations. I am also a specialist in rheumatology.

As a surgeon, I was also particularly interested in the possibilities of performing operations as gently as possible and only when all other promising measures had been exhausted.

The efforts to resolve complaints and impairments without surgery as far as possible led to a decreasing frequency of surgical interventions in my practice.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is gentler than injections and often more effective than other methods. This has also been proven in several large studies, which have shown that acupuncture works just as well or better than conventional methods or medication for headaches, osteoarthritis (= joint wear and tear), particularly in the knee and hip joints, and back pain.

Chiropractic

The term chiropractic originates from America, where the first school of chiropractic was founded by Daniel David Palmer in 1897. The method is based on the manipulative treatment of the spine and joints to correct functional disorders

I have been using these methods in my practice for over 20 years with great success and have always been able to add new facets and techniques to provide you with an optimized individual treatment concept. Recently, osteopathic techniques, some of which are similar to other manual techniques, have also been added to the treatment concept.

Osteology

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis, also known as bone loss, is a disease of the skeletal system. Reduced bone mass and porous bone architecture are typical. These lead to a weakening of the bone and it breaks more easily.

Diagnostics:

• Determination of the individual risk
• X-ray, fully digital with us
• Bone density measurement (DXA) at the Cantonal Hospital Zug
• Laboratory tests

Therapy:

• Specific drug therapy with modern agents
• Provision with orthoses if necessary
• Advice on necessary vitamins and minerals as well as invasive measures
