Experience with all your senses the activity of forging, be inspired by the magic of fire, and feel the dynamism and features of the materials and tools to be used.

We offer forging classes in small groups of 1-3 people, whether you already have experience or want to approach the ancient craft of forging for the first time.

Courses take place in our workshop in Gravesano / Ticino, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., with a 1-hour break at noon.

BASIC or APPROFUNDIMENTO forging course

For those who do not yet have experience with forging and forging, the BASE course will allow them to experience this activity with their senses, to learn the first signs of the "language of steel" and to feel the weight and features of the materials and tools to be used, followed by the APPROFUNDIMENTO course to put into practice what they have learned during the BASE course. The BASIC course is open to everyone.

Knife Blade Forging Course

Making your own knife is the dream of many people. You learn techniques from A to Z to take home a knife ready for everyday use. The knife blade course lasts 2 days.

Forging...a bit of history

Forging (or forging) is an ancient and prestigious craft, which was once often linked to magic and mysticism and whose origins date back to the Neolithic period (around 6000 BC) with bronze working. Nowadays it has become very rare, just as very rare are the forges that still follow the ancient tradition of fire forging.

In the forge, fire is born from coal or coke, fed with air by a fan. The craftsman red-hots the iron or steel until the latter reaches a temperature of 800 to 1'100° C. At this point the object is removed from the fire, which is now ready to be forged with a hammer on the anvil. Depending on the size of the object, a mallet can also be used. Once the desired shape is achieved, the filing process follows and finally the finishing work, such as applying a wooden handle.
