In 1948 Franz Murer-Odermatt, known as "Steine-Franz", founded his own business. As a trained bricklayer, he was able to build up a large clientele thanks to his good craftsmanship. His business premises with storage rooms were located on Allmendstrasse in Beckenried. The company grew and the first fully hydraulic excavator was purchased in 1957 to cope with the civil engineering work. With the purchase of 3 dumpers, the necessary transportation for mountain road construction was accomplished.

At that time, there was no ready-mixed concrete on the construction sites, nor was there a construction crane. The concrete was produced directly on the construction sites and brought in using carts or conveyor belts. The fact that these materials were transported by sea on the Nauen was one reason why Franz Murer-Odermatt bought the Hostettli property next to the car ferry from Mrs. Marie Gander, popularly known as "S'Wolfelers-Marie". A larger warehouse with a workshop was set up here.

Having barely finished school, his sons joined the business and actively helped out. In 1961, son Walter began his apprenticeship as a bricklayer, Franz has been working as a construction machine operator since 1963, Josef completed his apprenticeship as a bricklayer from 1966 to 1969, and Ernst has been driving a truck since 1975 (leaving in 2014)

and Kurt since 1977. Since completing her commercial apprenticeship in 1964, daughter Margrit has dedicated herself to the administrative side of the business. The business was continuously modernized with new equipment and machines. There is also a tradition of training young professionals.

In 1979, the existing sole proprietorship was converted into a family-owned limited company. In the same year, a plot of land in the Eichli industrial zone in Stans was purchased from the Stans Corporation. A new work yard and an office building with the necessary infrastructure for the economic development of the company were built here.

In the 1980s, the second generation took over the operational management of the construction company. As managing director, Walter Murer, a federally certified master bricklayer, brought the company to what it is today. His brothers Franz, Sepp, Ernst and Kurt as well as his sister Margrit have actively supported him. In 2013, the construction company was split into two independent public limited companies. Franz Murer - Odermatt Verwaltungs AG continues to be managed by the second generation.

The third generation was allowed to take over the operational division of the construction company with the same name, Franz Murer-Odermatt AG. The share capital belongs to four people who are actively involved in the company. There will be no noticeable change for employees, customers and suppliers. With this step after 65 years since the company was founded, we can now tackle the future.

The third generation is full of enthusiasm for construction. Franco Murer since 1994 as foreman TS and since 2009 as managing director, Kurt Murer as driver and all-rounder since 1977, Urs Murer since 1997 as machine operator / driver and mechanic, Franz Murer junior since 2001 as foreman / machine operator and crane operator and Marc Murer since 2013 as truck driver.

On January 13, 2020, our longtime managing director Walter Murer passed away at the age of 74 after more than two years of fighting lung cancer. We will never forget him and thank him for everything he did for us and the company.

Testimony to the efficiency of our company are the many residential buildings, extensions and conversions, customer work, agricultural buildings, roads, creek constructions, gravel processing, transportation and much more.

Despite the price war in the construction industry that has been going on for years, our company is confident about the future, even in the year 2022.
