Italy - the pure wine paradise
First of all, I have to make a small confession: although I have Italian roots, as a young organic laboratory technician I found my way to wine not through the wines of my home country, but through the wines of Bordeaux. Their nobility sparked in me a passion for wine that still smolders today. I eagerly tasted my way through the various appellations, acquired a taste for them and lost my blinkers. I read everything I could about grape juice and gradually my horizon shifted towards Italy.
The land of my fathers was in a state of upheaval at the time. The classic, historical regions such as Piedmont, Veneto and Tuscany were reinventing themselves. New, unknown regions were shyly beginning to emerge. The decision to enter the wine trade was perhaps not an easy one. However, it was clear from the outset that it had to be Italy and only Italy.
In 2017, the Vini D'Amato wine shop is already celebrating its twenty-fifth birthday. Time has flown by. A lot has changed in Italy. New wines, new regions, new winemaker names have emerged. Only one thing has remained constant: Italy is still a pure wine paradise - exciting, sometimes anarchic and disturbing. In any case, I know of no other wine country with a comparable variety and density of wonderful wine landscapes, autochthonous, sometimes still ancient grape varieties and beguiling wines that, together with the delicious cucina italiana, offer complete enjoyment.I am proud of our wide range. It is the fruit of many journeys and countless contacts with winemakers, slowly and steadily growing. It focuses on the indigenous Italian grape varieties and brings together the wines that give them their most beautiful expression. Classic and modern interpretations stand side by side on an equal footing. We remain loyal to the old, deserving names and are open to up-and-coming talent. These guiding principles have accompanied us for the last twenty-five years and will continue to guide us into the future.
