Secondary level institute of education II - baccalaureate preapation
Private Catholic school (non-state public school) founded in 1987 by the then Bishop of Lugano Monsignor Eugenio Corecco.
The Liceo Diocesano at Collegio Pio XII in Lugano Breganzona offers preparation for the Swiss Maturity Exam (formerly Federal Maturity).
The structure of Collegio Pio XII houses in perfect harmony the Liceo Diocesano, the congregation of the Missionary Sisters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus and Aristotle College.
The educational, training, cultural, sports and recreational offerings of the Liceo Diocesano are manifold:
- Preparation for the Swiss Maturity Exams .
- Music Curriculum (in collaboration with the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland) .
- Artistic Curricula (structured for later access to SUPSI)
- Individualized training curriculum for elite athletes
- Canteen service
- Subject study ("after school")
- Obtainment of internationally recognized language certificates (French, German and English)
- Study, cultural, recreational and sports trips and stays planned for each school year
- Science laboratory
- Computer room
- Library
The experience gained in the educational and training field allows the management of the Diocesan High School to be able to give guarantees of success. The results obtained by the students, especially with regard to obtaining the baccalaureate, confirms the validity of the method applied and the teaching staff.
In the more than 30 years of its presence in the area, more than 600 students have been successfully educated, thus passing the baccalaureate exams.
In addition to the Board of Teachers, which meets several times during the school year, Class Teachers, important figures for students and their families, are defined by the Management each year. All teachers are part of their respective subject groups for the supervision and sharing of the teaching content of the various school disciplines.
The Liceo Diocesano has a Board of Directors, chaired by the current Bishop of Lugano and composed of 6 other members, which defines objectives and mandates entrusted to the Management Board, which in turn is composed of a director, a deputy director and an administrative director.
The Governing Board, on the other hand, is composed of the director, deputy director and 4 other faculty members.
There is a "Scholarship Commission," composed of 3 people from outside the Diocesan Lyceum, which evaluates the annual grant applications and manages accordingly the economic resources generously made available by external entities, so that no one is precluded from attending the school due to economic issues.
