After obtaining his medical degree in 1999, Dr Makris completed postgraduate training in adult and child psychiatry and psychotherapy in Geneva. He obtained his FMH specialist title in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in 2013.

Parallel to this, Dr Makris has completed several training courses in the field of autism in England and France.

Dr Makris was head of clinic in the child psychiatric liaison unit, at the University Hospitals of Geneva. There, he worked in close collaboration with the medical-nursing somatic care teams, ensuring the overall care of patients, hospitalized for somatic reasons, in its psychic dimension in order to provide them with holistic support. Dr. Makris provided direct interventions in all departments of the Children's Hospital, the Maternity Hospital and also with other HUG departments, with patients and also networking with pediatric colleagues and care teams.
