Production and marketing
of fresh fruit and vegetables
Agrotomato SA was founded in 2007 by Claudio Cattori and Emma, after gaining and consolidating extensive experience in agricultural production through hard work and ambition, with nothing else in hand but a handful of dreams and ideas. The company is involved in the production and marketing of fresh fruit and vegetables, promoting them nationally.
Agrotomato SA began operations in January 2007. In fact, Claudio Cattori and his family decided to take on this new challenge after Alptransit expropriated the Camorino company.
This step gave rise to a modern company that has developed and expanded over the years, making it one of the most important companies in the Ticino horticultural sector.
With their usual passion, the Cattori family produces a variety of seasonal vegetables with the utmost respect for the environment and maximum freshness.
Greenhouse products
Sheltered from the vagaries of the weather and kissed by the Ticino sun, our tomatoes grow in various sections of the greenhouse. The seedlings are planted in the second week of January, and 10 weeks after planting, we can begin to harvest the first fruits.
As a rule, for small-fruited varieties (cherry tomatoes), harvesting begins in mid-April, while for ramati tomatoes, we have to wait a little longer, with the first significant harvests usually beginning towards the end of the month.
Cultivation continues until mid-November, after which the structures are cleaned, disinfected, and prepared for the new growing cycle.

Field production follows the natural rhythm of the seasons, although in recent years, at the request of consumers, various vegetables are grown in periods that are not ideal for their cultivation.
The plots managed by the company are located in the municipalities of Giubiasco, Cadenazzo, and Gudo.

Our products are manufactured according to the following production standards:
Suisse Garantie: The Suisse Garantie certification mark of origin ensures that raw materials come from Swiss agriculture and are processed exclusively on Swiss soil.
Swiss Gap: Swiss Gap is an association that aims to introduce the Global Gap standard in Switzerland, taking into account the particular Swiss structures. For horticulture, it has been developed on the basis of current integrated production requirements.
We respect the environment around us
The company strives to produce using techniques that respect the environment around us.
In fact, since October 2012, we have been heating our greenhouses with heat from the Giubiasco waste-to-energy plant. By choosing this heat source, we have abandoned propane gas, eliminating CO2 emissions in one fell swoop. As a company, we were already certified by the Swiss Confederation as a low-emission company, and by changing our energy source, we are complying with the new national policy on CO2 emission reductions.
In greenhouse cultivation, we practice biological control against various pests. Thanks to the introduction of these beneficial insects, we are able to keep the main pests under control, namely whiteflies, red spider mites, thrips, and aphids.
To achieve complete and regular fertilization of tomato flowers, we use bumblebees, which are supplied to us in hives and last for 8-10 weeks, with the first 6 weeks being the most active.
Our tomato plants are planted in a coconut fiber-based substrate, which is spread on the fields as a soil conditioner at the end of the growing season, as it is a natural product.
As with sales, we only use foldable crates for the company's internal logistics, which allows us to save on unnecessary trips with our vans and reduce CO2 emissions.
