Hedingen is located west of Üetliberg in the district of Affoltern am Albis and borders the canton of Aargau. The village is a peri-urban residential community due to its distance of 11 km as the crow flies from Zurich. At 497 m above sea level, Hedingen lies on the border between the hill and mountain regions. Most of the inhabitants live in the village itself, which consists of an Unterdorf (lower village) and an Oberdorf (upper village). A smaller number live in various hamlets/settlements. The Unterdorf is located in the valley below and the Oberdorf, as its name suggests, is located on the hillside above, in a sunny location with a wide view of the Lindenberg in Aargau. The old village also forms the village center. However, it is very small, as Hedingen has grown rapidly, especially in recent years. In addition, practically all of the old houses have been carefully renovated, so that the old village harmonizes very well with the newer buildings; only the structure of the buildings in a few places still refers to the old days. The village center is home to restaurants and shops, such as a grocery store, a bakery/pastry shop, hair salons, etc., and of course the train station and post office.
