Photovoltaics

Photovoltaics are used to generate electricity directly from the sun. Photovoltaic modules convert sunlight into electricity. The direct current generated by the modules is converted into alternating current by the inverter and from there fed into the electricity grid via the house connection. There are two types of system: grid-connected PV systems and stand-alone PV systems for self-supply.

Grid-connected photovoltaic systems consist of the PV modules, the inverter and a feed-in meter.

Functional sequence

• PV modules absorb the incident solar radiation in the solar cells

• The radiation is converted into electricity in the solar cells and conducted to the module's junction box via internal connections.
• The PV modules are connected to each other to form a generator and transmit the electrical current to the inverter via the string line.
• The inverter converts the direct current into grid-compliant alternating current. It performs control and regulation functions to optimize the yield.
The alternating current is fed into the electricity grid via a feed-in meter.
