The company Hayoz A. Holzbau AG in Kleingurmels is a prime example of a medium-sized timber construction company. In 1948, Alois Hayoz took over his father's company, which was still located in the old cheese dairy in Gurmels at the time.

By 1950, carpentry work had already begun and the first employees were hired. A sawmill and a carpentry workshop were added to the business in 1957. The company moved into its new premises in Kleingurmels, which covered an area of 25,000 m2, in 1966.

Since 1977, the company has been a family AG, now in its third generation, and currently employs 32 people.

Building with wood

The element construction method allows millimeter-precise assembly on the substructure within a few days after appropriate preparation.

Wall stairs

The various straight or winding stringer staircases are characterized by their simple design. The stringers border the staircase on both sides. The banister is attached directly to the stringers. The space between the stringer and handrail can be filled with various materials (glass, chrome steel, steel cables, wood) and manufactured in different variations.

Folding stairs

The folding staircase is characterized by a very modern and impressive design. This is achieved by a seemingly seamless connection between the tread and riser. It seems as if this staircase is folded directly out of the wood, hence the name folded staircase.

This staircase is supported by stringers instead of stringers. The treads are placed on the stringers and give this type of staircase its characteristic appearance. The banister is attached directly to the treads and can be designed variably

Freestanding stairs

With this type of staircase, the treads are suspended from the handrail using stakes. This gives it a floating appearance. The cantilever staircase has no side stringers. The handrail assumes the load-bearing function and must be dimensioned accordingly. The treads are therefore shown to their full advantage and can be manufactured in any curved or straight shape.
